Your treatment doesn’t end when you leave the salon — the way you care for yourself afterwards can make a big difference to how you feel and how long the benefits last. Here’s what to expect and what you can do after your session:
Immediately After Your Treatment
It’s common to feel:
Deeply relaxed or sleepy
Lighter, more mobile, or even a little “floaty”
Temporary tiredness or mild muscle soreness (especially after remedial or deeper massage)
A slight increase in urination or bowel movements (due to stimulated circulation and lymphatic flow)
These are normal and usually pass within 24 hours.
General Aftercare for All Treatments
✅ Do:
Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins released during the treatment.
Rest and allow your body to recover — avoid rushing back into strenuous activity.
Eat a light, healthy meal to help maintain your body’s restored balance.
Keep warm — your circulation may have shifted, so a light jumper or blanket at home can help.
Take note of how your body feels so you can feed back at your next session.
❌ Avoid (for at least 24 hours):
Heavy exercise, strenuous lifting, or high-impact sports.
Alcohol, caffeine, or heavy, greasy meals — these can dehydrate or stress your system.
Long hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms if you feel lightheaded (especially after reflexology, remedial massage, or acupressure).
Driving immediately if you feel sleepy — allow yourself time to become fully alert.
Treatment-Specific Aftercare
Swedish Massage / Remedial Massage
Rest muscles as needed; gentle stretching is fine but avoid intense workouts for 24 hours.
Apply a warm compress if there’s mild soreness, or a cold pack if there’s slight swelling.
Aromatherapy Massage
Allow oils to remain on your skin for a few hours so they can continue working.
Avoid showering immediately unless necessary.
Be aware of sun exposure if phototoxic oils (e.g., citrus oils) were used — avoid direct sun for 12 hours.
Reflexology / Clinical Reflexology / Hand Reflexology / Foot & Hand Massage
Wear comfortable shoes and avoid high heels straight after.
Be aware that symptoms may temporarily worsen before improving (a “healing reaction”).
Keep hydrated to support lymphatic drainage.
Facials
Avoid touching your face or applying heavy makeup for at least a few hours.
Protect skin from strong sunlight — wear SPF if outdoors.
Avoid exfoliating products for 48 hours.
Scalp, Neck & Shoulder Massage / Traditional Head Massage
Hair may feel oily from massage oils — leave them in for extra nourishment if possible before washing.
Take time to stand up slowly to avoid dizziness.
Bamboo Massage
Same as Swedish/remedial aftercare — drink water and rest.
Gentle stretching can help maintain flexibility gains.
Seated Acupressure
Stand slowly after treatment; acupressure can lower blood pressure slightly.
Avoid stimulants (coffee/energy drinks) for the rest of the day to let your body’s energy rebalance.
Natural Product purchases (with Essential Oils)
Patch test any products at home before full use.
Store products away from heat, light, and children.
Follow instructions on safe use, especially for essential oils.
